"If you ran your city" Video Contest

If I Ran the City Video Contest

Kaysville City is participating in an exciting new contest to encourage youth to participate in municipal government! IF I RAN THE CITY is a video competition for 16-29-year-olds that requires them to post a 60-90 second video about what their top priority would be if THEY ran the city! Contestants can post their public video to TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook with the hashtag #IfIRanTheCity to be entered.

The contest began on September 1st and runs through October 22nd at 5:00pm (also the deadline to register to vote in the general election!). Ten finalists will be selected and each will win $100 and move on to the final round. In the final round, three statewide winners will be selected by a public vote. The first prize winner will win $1,000. Second prize is $750, and third prize is $500. The winners will be announced December 1st and, on top of receiving cash prizes, they will also get the opportunity to shadow the mayor and/or their city councilperson to get a firsthand look at what it’s like to ACTUALLY run the city!

This competition was created and funded by VOTERISE, a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to educate, empower, and engage Utah's 16-29-year-olds through voter registration and turnout. Only 1 in 5 voters participate in mayoral elections, and younger voters have a much lower registration and turnout rate than their older peers. This video contest is designed to bring attention to the elections that affect us the most while also addressing the lack of youth electoral participation in Utah.
